If you told me 15 years ago that I’d one day call myself a finance coach, I probably would’ve raised an eyebrow.
I was a CPA by trade — spreadsheets, reconciliations, tax schedules, and financial reporting were my world. Then came the step into leadership: working as a CFO, managing teams, sitting in boardrooms, navigating numbers at scale. I loved it. I was good at it. But something deeper was calling — and I didn’t realise it until life threw me into my own whirlwind of chaos and clarity.
Let me backtrack a bit.
Life Behind the Scenes
I’m a mum of three vibrant, curious, non-stop kids. My husband is a commercial pilot — which means he’s in and out of time zones, and very often, not at home. So life management, money management, kids’ activities, emotional support, school admin… they often fall into my basket.
And I’ll be honest: even with my background in finance, there were times when I felt completely maxed out.
I learned how to cook dinner while reviewing a budget sheet. I negotiated school fees and medical appointments in the same week I helped CEOs with cash flow forecasting. I built pivot tables with one hand and held a toddler on my hip with the other.
That juggle — the real, messy, wonderful chaos of motherhood and working life — taught me more than any MBA ever did.
From Helping Companies… to Helping People
Over the years, I started noticing something.
Yes, companies needed CFOs. But people — especially women navigating big transitions — needed something even more personal: someone to walk beside them when their financial world felt confusing, overwhelming, or even shameful.
I’d get casual messages from friends:
“Hey Sherryn, can you help me work out a budget?”
“I think I need to separate my finances from my husband’s… where do I start?”
“I make good money, but it feels like it all disappears — what am I doing wrong?”
What began as casual chats turned into heartfelt sessions. And the more I did it, the more I realised — this is where my heart truly sits.
Helping women (especially divorced or separated) understand their finances.
Helping business owners find clarity and direction.
Helping professionals feel confident and in control again.
This wasn’t just about numbers.
It was about healing.
Why Finances Are More Than Just Numbers
I’ve always believed financial stress isn’t just a numbers problem — it’s deeply emotional.
That belief led me to pursue a Graduate Diploma in Psychology. What I learned reinforced what I saw every day: people don’t struggle with money because they’re “bad at maths” — they struggle because they carry financial baggage from their upbringing, past relationships, or even trauma.
Fear. Shame. Guilt. Unworthiness.
I saw these patterns especially clearly in women going through divorce. Many had been out of the workforce for years. Others had let their partners handle “all the money stuff.” And now, facing separation, they felt like they were starting from zero — financially and emotionally.
That’s why I don’t just “coach.”
I roll up my sleeves and do it with you.
I’ll help you fill in the forms, build a budget, talk through the numbers, explain what they mean — and help you feel okay about it. Because the truth is, if you want to move forward with your money, you often need to look back first. Understand where the fear came from. Give it a name. And then start building again — from a place of clarity, not panic.
The Realisation: This Is What I’m Meant To Do
There’s a kind of joy that doesn’t come from closing a corporate quarter. It comes from seeing a woman who thought she was “hopeless with money” walk away with a clear plan and real confidence.
It comes from a business owner who finally knows how to track cash flow, set targets, and make decisions that grow their business — not just guess and stress.
It comes from knowing I’ve helped someone move from chaos to clarity.
That feeling? That’s what made me take the leap.
I left the corporate world and created a new path — one where I could serve with my head and my heart. I now work as a virtual CFO and finance coach, supporting:
- Women going through divorce who want to rebuild financial independence
- Business owners who need structure and strategy to thrive
- Professionals who earn well but feel lost when it comes to managing their own finances
What I’ve Learned Along the Way
This journey has taught me:
- You don’t have to know everything to get started — but you do need to start.
- Most people aren’t bad with money — they’ve just never had anyone explain it in a way that makes sense to them.
- Financial confidence isn’t just about bank balances — it’s about self-worth, clarity, and peace of mind.
So, Why Do I Do This?
Because I believe money shouldn’t be a source of shame or stress.
Because I believe everyone deserves to understand their numbers — and feel safe with them.
Because I believe clarity comes when you combine practical tools with emotional support.
And because I’ve seen, time and time again, that a little clarity can change someone’s life.
